What to Expect

You will receive a pre-hunt information package via email in the late spring / early summer.  It will contain your outstanding balance and other useful information pertaining to your upcoming hunt.

It is important to practice shooting your rifle, to be ready for the moment of truth.  While practicing, it is a good idea to shoot with the same gear you will be wearing during your hunt.  It can be surprising how this can impact your shooting, and we want you to be prepared.

Given our hunting method, we highly recommend that you utilize the Maximum Point-Blank Range (MPBR) ballistics methodology.  Simply put, if you sight your rifle in to shoot 3.0 inches high at 100 yards, you will be able to hit a deer’s vitals up to ~300 yards away by holding center mass, eliminating the need to factor in bullet trajectory.  You can learn more about the MPBR for your rifle/ammo combination by checking out our Hunting Links and Resources section.

Having the ability to age an Alberta Whitetail on the hoof is an invaluable skill for ambush hunting.  You may not have much time to judge your deer, so it is HIGHLY recommended that you study the Aging video we have developed.  It will teach you what to look for to identify a mature buck, simply by looking at it’s body and features.  You can find it in the General Interest section of our Video gallery.

Just prior to your hunt starting, you will arrive in Edmonton and will be staying at our affiliate hotel.  It is located a short distance from the airport and there are free shuttles to take you there.  A room will be reserved in your name.  Unless you have made special arrangements with us in advance, you will be booked with another hunter from the same camp (to reduce costs).

On pick-up day, we will meet you in the main lobby area around 8:00 am.  We will have breakfast as a group, then you can check out and pay for your room.  We will load your gear into our vehicles and start the journey to camp.

Along the way, we’ll stop at a grocery and liquor store so you can pick up any special snacks, candies, sodas, or liquor (light social drinking in the evenings at the lodge is permitted).

Once we arrive at the lodge, we will unload your gear and get it situated in your room.  You can grab your rifle and ammo, and head to the shooting range to ensure you are sighted in properly while it is still light outside.  Lunch will be ready as soon as you are done shooting.  You will have the balance of the afternoon to relax and soak in the scenery.

Prior to supper, we will hand out licenses and walk you through an orientation which will help you to be ready for the start of your hunt the next morning.

On hunt days, breakfast will be ready when you wake up.  You can have breakfast and grab your lunch for the day.  You’ll leave the lodge at a pre-determined time and head to your location with your guide.

When you arrive back at camp, you will have time to relax and share the day’s events prior to supper.  After supper, you are free to relax in the comfort of the lodge then go to bed when it suits you.

If you are successful in harvesting an animal, we will prepare your trophy for the trip home by cleaning/salting the skull plate and freezing the cape.  You will be provided with a plastic tote on your departure day, for packing them into.  It is best to fill the voids in this tote with your gear, to provide a solid package for shipping.  We will provide you with the necessary paperwork to bring your trophy back into the States.

All Wolves harvested must remain in Canada as they require a CITES permit before they can be shipped to you.  We will coordinate the processing of the hide/skull with a local taxidermist and the shipping with a local broker.  All costs related to these activities are your responsibility and must be paid directly with the taxidermist and broker.

On the last day of the hunt, clients who have tagged out earlier in the hunt need to pack their gear mid-day to make room for those clients hunting the last day, as they will have limited time to pack before supper.  Once everyone has had supper, we will load all your gear in our vehicles and take you back to the hotel.  Typical arrival time at the hotel in Edmonton is around 7pm.

When you are checking into the hotel, let the front desk know when you need a shuttle ride to the airport.  It is recommended that you arrive at the airport a minimum of 2 ½ hrs before your flight, as it can be busy with other hunters departing.

If you have a trophy tote, the hotel has a large freezer that you can store it in overnight.  Let the front desk know when you are checking in and they will give you tags for labelling it.

Be sure to have your hunting license and firearms declaration form (and US Import/Export form if you harvested an animal and are taking it home) on your person when clearing customs back into the US.
